23rd April Gift from The Department Of Industrial Engineering To The Science World

Industrial Engineering Department faculty member Assistant Professor Ibrahim Sabuncu and his student Zeynep Yürek have collected COVID-19 related Twitter messages in Turkish using data mining software in order to investigate the social impact of COVID-19 in Turkey. Tweets have been collected starting from March 11, 2020 which is the date of the first occurrence of COVID-19 case. The dataset currently includes 3.7 million (exactly 3,715,540) tweets sent by April 23, 2020. In addition, the data set contains 12 different information columns for each tweet (information about the sender, account name, location, system used, time of creation, etc.). These tweets contribute as an important data source to do research on the social impact of COVID-19 in Turkey in areas such as social media analysis, text mining, and subject modeling.

Assistant Professor İbrahim Sabuncu and his student Zeynep Yürek presented this important data to the world of science by publishing it in the Data Portal of IEEE, the world's leading technical organization, which has more than 420 thousand members, so that other scientists can use it in their research. On this occasion, they hung our flag not only on their homes and businesses on April 23, but also on the homepage of one of the most visited websites in the world by technical scientists.
